Piccolo

Piccolo is probably the most underrated character in DBZ. Piccolo has the most intelligence in and is the most dangerous fighter in DBZ. Why? Well, because he is so composed he never loses contro,l even in battle, and is not blinded by pride. He knows when a battle is out of his class and chooses the smart way out: to leave and come back stronger. He sees no need to fight to the end and get killed. What will that solve? He makes the wisest choice.

I like Piccolo. He tells it like it is. He’s very much like Vegeta- they have great deal in common. One, they both can’t stand Goku. That’s right, Piccolo doesn’t like Goku and often gets frustrated with him. Piccolo does begrudgingly respect Goku, but he doesn’t have to like him. He is often disgusted by Goku’s actions.

I shall prove this fact. Okay, there are plenty examples of this. I’ll go with the room of Spirit and Time. Hell, the whole Cell saga could be used, but this one in particular works well. Gohan and Goku come out of the room starving and start eating. Piccolo shudders in disgust at how sloppily Goku eats. Another example is when Goku forces Gohan to fight Cell. Piccolo is outraged by Goku’s insensitivity to his son, forcing him to fight Cell, and to everyone, including Gohan, it seemed as though Goku didn’t care for his son. Piccolo saw this as a huge mistake, which it was. As I stated before, Gohan’s power was not a sure thing, but at least Goku could have mentioned this to Gohan or Piccolo. Perhaps then he could trained Gohan or something. The point is, Piccolo was pissed.

He also sees the his allies for what they are, like Vegeta, for example. He is the first to recognize Vegeta’s honorable qualities. I believe he saw Vegeta in a different light once he confessed his hellish past. I think he could relate to Vegeta in many ways. Anyway, Piccolo sees Vegeta as a hero. He makes these statements and shows no prejudices against Vegeta. It’s true- remember in the Cell saga he chose not to wear the Saiyan uniform? He states that he is not a Saiyan and he won’t dress like one. This is not an attack against Vegeta, for if it was he sure wouldn’t be afraid to say so. The past is the past and he accepts Vegeta regardless of what he did.

Piccolo is very cool character. He really is, he and Vegeta would probably make the best fight if they were at an even power level. Piccolo is cool, calculatind, and collected. He, like Frieza, doesn’t let the enemy deter his determination by words. Piccolo never loses control, never He’s silent and observant, and usually when he fights it’s precise and accurate. He’s very focused, which makes him such a fatal fighter. Hell, even Vegeta gave him praise for his attacks. He is brave and doesn’t play around.

He likes to find out what he is up against before going into battle, and so sits and watches and can unusually figure out the enemies' weaknessnes. He doesn’t risk anyone’s life when he fights. He truly fights to protect the weak. He is probably the most caring Z-fighter; he shows respect to others. He just has an awesome demeanor, a cool air that surrounds him. He has this commanding presence about him and has an amazing composure that sends chills down his opponent's spine. He has that advantage, he’s very intimidating, and, like Vegeta, can defeat an enemy just by looking at them.

Piccolo does hold back. Why? Well, because he doesn’t want the enemy to know what they’re up against. Like I said, he’s just brilliant. The only thing stopping him from dominating is lack of power. It’s his only weakness.

The only time I was disappointed in Piccolo was when he let Vegeta be beaten to death. That was just cruel. Then again, at the time Piccolo had no reason to trust Vegeta or help him. Piccolo knew he would just be delaying the inevitable, nor did he realize what kind of person Vegeta was. He had yet to hear of his past so he was under the impression that he was no different than Frieza.

Piccolo is tough, brave, doesn’t take abuse regardless how strong his opponents is, is smart, and knows when he is beaten and is capable of choosing a different strategy. There is so much you can say about him. He is definitely high stung; he panics a lot and overestimates his opponent, which is smart as long as he doesn’t mention this to already frightened fighters. He’s too serious and can alert the other warriors.

He really makes a situation more dramatic. He’s very tense, but I think that is the best quality. I love the anxiety he brings into the show, it just make the situation more interesting, like when Shin is first introduced. That was good- he made it seem like Shin was the most evil, fiercest opponent they could ever face. We all know that Shin is tough, just not that tough. I don’t know if you agree, but I feel Shin is a strong person, really dramatic, and just as smart as Piccolo. Even though he’s another story I just thought I’d give him special recognition, since he usually very neglected.

Piccolo is nonchalant, a silent hero that hardly ever gets the praise he deserves. He’s a teacher, a motivator, and an excellent strategist. I believe if Piccolo was high in power DBZ would had been over much sooner, because unlike Goku he doesn’t hesitate to kill the enemy and he does not care for a greater challenge. Sure, he likes to fight, but never at the risk of someone else’s life or risk the enemy becoming more powerful. He has a military mind.

He has grown to care about the Earth and it’s people along with the Z-fighters, but I only heard him make reference to Gohan and Vegeta being his friends. If you don’t remember when he said it about Vegeta, in the upcoming season of the Buu saga Piccolo pays last respects to Vegeta and says "Goodbye, my friend…"

Piccolo started as an enemy and became one of the Earth's heroes. He shows his emotions and also manages to not break face and keep his aggressive demeanor. I think this makes him very brave. Vegeta even lacks in that area. I just think Piccolo is interesting…but that’s enough on Piccolo.
